…no need to jump.
The ground currently beneath my feet is about to vanish.
In 24 hours I will be in the next decade of life. It’s one of those decades where you start to hear a LOT about aches and pains, diminishing energy, the freedom of an “I don’t give a $%ck” attitude and dissonance about how ill-equipped kids are these days.
That’s not the decade I’m entering…
My next decade looks more like an adventure into exciting, unknown territory of my own choosing.
A few days ago, I tried snowshoeing for the first time, after an epic snowstorm in our area. Deep snow, no clear path and zero technique. Just me, fresh air, and the fun of making my own tracks (and the elevated heart rate to go with the effort).
But here’s the coolest part – on my way back, I noticed others had followed the tracks I made. I wasn’t just forging my own path; I was clearing the way for others too. Cool right?

That’s how I’m heading into this next decade – unmarked, uncharted, and entirely mine to explore.
Only in this adventure (unlike the ones that came before it), I am more equipped than I’ve ever been. I’m bringing self-awareness, the confidence that comes from thousands of hours of work (in some things), and a healthy dose of humility to know that no matter how much I think I know, I really know very little at all.
My next decade isn’t a winding down of life, a floating into irrelevance. It’s exciting and expansive, where who I am on the inside lives in almost perfect congruence with the life I live on the outside.
It’s a celebration for all the days I’ve had on this planet to learn and grow and thrive and strive. It’s a commitment to making the most of the precious time – time we always hear feels too short in the end.
So here’s to fresh tracks, to stepping into the storm, to moving forward with intention, even when the path isn’t clear.
Join me in the celebration of life, of time, of wisdom, of the opportunity to do more.
For the rest of you….enjoy your complaints about the news, debates about the best orthotics, and all the reminiscing about the glory days.
Mine are still up ahead.
Happy Birthday to me!
Mary
