Know thyself, and then…

I know a LOT of things about me. You name some thinking style, personality or strengths assessment and I’ll do it (don’t believe me? Just wait…). The only thing I love more than the self discovery in it is the conversations I get to have with others about theirs. You want to go down that rabbit hole? Call me anytime.

The Coles Notes on me:

  • Kolbe: 6 3 9 2 Quick start
  • Clifton Strengths: Top 5 Strengths: Futuristic, Strategic, Communication, Individualization, Positivity
  • PRINT unconscious motivators: (7) To enjoy life and be happy and (4) To be special and find meaning
  • Enneagram: 7 / “The Enthusiast”
  • Working Genius: The “Discriminating ideator” – Invention & Discernment
  • DISC: Influence: Direct, open, fast-paced and people-oriented
  • Predictive Index: The Maverick

None of this matters if it doesn’t help me more effectively navigate the world, relationships, collaborations and impact.

How can I translate this into how I work with others?

  • I love the forest, not the trees — but sometimes I need to see at least a few trunks and leaves to meet my colleagues where ideas become actions.
  • I love new ideas, challenging conventions and starting anew — and still need to find focus and consistency to gain traction.
  • I often see the future more clearly than the present — and I need to paint a picture vivid enough for other people to help us get there, because my follow-through is the pits.
  • A positive, curious spirit is my superpower — and as much as I like to hit the eject button in all negative situations, there are juicy learnings there I’ll miss otherwise.

How about you? What do you know of your style, your strengths and your preferences? What blind spots do those create? How are you working to meet others where they are?

The Oracle of Delphi said, “know thyself.” It’s one of the most important things we can do. And it’s only the first step. The world, after all, is not about you or me (as much as my siblings like to think I don’t get this concept).
