I started taking dance breaks between meetings after seeing this excellent life advice from a child:
I didn’t realize my energy needed top-ups throughout the day – but there comes a point where coffee isn’t helpful. My job is fun and it’s demanding. Finding easy ways to get my creative juices flowing – like dancing between meetings – keeps me going.
I’ve had people ask me what’s got me in such a great mood. (Less than 2 minutes with Lil Boo Thang – I dare you to listen and not at least bop in your chair!)
Your time is a finite resource. Your energy isn’t.
“Intermittent breaks for renewal, we have found, result in higher and more sustainable performance. The length of renewal is less important than the quality.”
– HBR
When you take short breaks to get out of your head and into your body throughout the day, you’re more likely to avoid white-knuckling.
It doesn’t have to be dancing if it’s not your thing. It could be a short walk. Jumping jacks. What matters is you get away from your desk.
When you sign off today, will you feel energized and excited to do it all again tomorrow…or will you be exhausted and white-knuckling it? I know what I’m choosing.
